Ray Comfort on WDAY AM 970

I'm listening to Ray Comfort spew nonsense on WDAY this morning and losing an IQ point a minute. You may recall that he was supposed to debate PZ Myers on today's show, but there was a change of format. PZ will be on tomorrow at 10:00am, so I can regain my lost IQ points.

Some gems from the show include Ray's agreement that the Catholic Church tortured people during the Inquisition, but "don't blame that on Christians." This was after a caller pointed out that the church imprisoned Gallileo for suggesting that the earth revolves around the sun. Just a few minutes before that, Ray had commented that "In a hundred years time we will laugh at what science believes." The man truly has no sense of irony.

He also thinks there's "absolute, 100% proof" that intelligent design is true. Well, we already knew that Ray, but where's the proof? He had the temerity to use the old "no building without a builder" canard and to further demonstrate his misunderstanding of evolution by asking the host, "Can you make me a cow from nothing?"

No Ray, but you're doing a pretty good job of making an ass of yourself from nothing. Aside from your gross misunderstanding of evolution, you have a habit of pretending you can't hear the callers who disagree with you. Of course, your hearing miraculously returns for the YECs recommending Answers in Genesis as a source of science information.

In short, nothing new here. Same old creationist nonsense, same old intellectual dishonesty.

Why wait? We can laugh at fundamentalists right now.

  3. Ironically, we don't really laugh at what scientists believed a hundred years ago, but rather, we recognize that they were laying the foundation for all of the scientists that followed.

What a weird statement to make. I guess it's par for the course for Ray, though.

  4. Uneducated morons like Ray are laughing at what science knows (not "believes") right now. Doesn't make him right and science wrong, though. Just makes him a fool who laughs while the real world he cannot comprehend passes him by. Ray is a typical fundamentalist idiot, a pitiful mixture of ignorance congratulating itself with arrogance.

  5. It's very forthcoming of Ray to prove that ID is inseparable of religion. No matter how often cdesign proponentsists relabel ID, it will always be religion. An ideology is revealed by its followers. A pseudoscience adhered to by exclusively religious followers is by definition religious.

Kind of like the religious zealots who believe in evolution with no proof, right?

  8. And who would they be? Considering the evidence for evolution is among the most comprehensive and irrefutable in all science, deciding that it's something you're going to believe in with no proof is more than a bit ridiculous. Thanks for playing, though.

Where's your evidence, Martin??? We're still waiting. I like how evolutionists claim that there is evidence without actually citing any.

    Thanks for playing, though.

  10. Um...ever crack open a biology book over visit a museum in your entire life? That 150 years of scientific research and evidence has been pretty thoroughly documented and shored up. If you're "still waiting," it can only be because you've been doing it with your head in the sand.

Saying science has never produced any evidence for evolution is like saying it has never produced evidence for gravity or magnetism. And nothing makes you look dumber than to say something just plain pants-on-the-head wrong, like "I like how evolutionists claim that there is evidence without actually citing any," with a tone of smug confidence.

I shouldn't have to provide you with a full remedial science education, but since you were obviously dozing off from 5th grade on, I'll do what I can. Start here, then here, then here, and also try here and here. Then you can read any of the umpty-zillion books out there on the subject. One of these you might find worthwhile is Ken Miller's Only a Theory, as the scientist who wrote it is also a Christian, he just happens to be one who doesn't think being Christian requires the rejection of facts. Finally, there's a series running right now on, of all things, the History Channel, called Evolve, which early reports indicate is pretty accurate.

I'll be frankly impressed if you actually check out any of this, as it's been my experience of science deniers that there is no cure for willful ignorance, especially that practiced in the service of protecting beliefs in Bronze Age myths. But other people have resisted modernity and knowledge before, only to have their eyes opened to reality and discover that they weren't actually as stupid as they thought they had to be. I wish you luck in your journey from the 18th century to the 21st.
