Why oh why do they hate the Ceiling Cat so much? In what will doubtless be trumpeted as more suppression of "free speech" by Dr. Evil and the Nazi Darwinist Stormtroopers of "Big Science," the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board took a big fat sanity pill and unanimously denied the request of the Institute for Creation Research to be granted certification to offer a master's degree program in science education in Texas.
The reason is, of course, obvious. Young Earth Creationism is in about as complete a state of opposition to actual science as the movies of Pauly Shore are to actual comedy. There is just a contingent of ideologues among the Christian faithful who simply cannot comprehend that it is not the purpose of science to validate preconceived religious beliefs, however precious those beliefs are to those who hold them. And in their bleating over the supposed denial of any "free exchange of ideas" in an academic setting, they are, of course, failing to make another meaningful distinction: free speech and free inquiry are not synonyms for "you get to teach whatever you want, even if it's false, if enough people believe it." Each person is entitled to their own opinions and beliefs; what you are not entitled to are your own facts.
But at least the creationists can take some cold comfort in the fact they aren't the only ones being oppressed by the dogmatic, iron fist of "Big Science"!
Wow, excellent job on the title Martin. I hope the fact that the decision was UNANIMOUS will help these creationist/intelligent design/obvious ploy to introduce god into schools via science/whatever the hell it's being called today cases die out, but I have a feeling they aren't opted to give up so easily...
ReplyDeleteThey won't, Enshoku. Nothing evolves like creationism.
ReplyDeletethat's brilliantly ironic. Mind if I steal that?
ReplyDeleteIf intelligent design dies ( like creationism) what do you think will be the next course of action for the creationists, if there is one?
I already stole it. It's the opening sentence from Rob Pennock's must-read book on ID, Tower of Babel: The Evidence against the New Creationism: "Creationism is evolving."
ReplyDeleteI really don't know what they'll pull next. But since, given the fact they still can't produce any science to validate ID, they've essentially been reduced to conspiracy theories and selling themselves as martyrs to "free speech," I'd expect them to continue in that vein for a while yet. They've really nothing left.
How does "martyr" apply, they are neither suffering nor dieing for intelligent design(or unintelligent design for you pastafarians)?
ReplyDeleteEnshoku, you don't think anything bad really has to be happening to them for them to feel like being crybabies, do you?
ReplyDeletesue to the fact that I heard about that graph on one of the 05 episodes of the non-prophets, I have no comment.
ReplyDeleteedit: I changed my mind, I two comments:
1. I do believe you have delivered an epic trashing to them, my fine sir.
2. you owe my a new pair of pants.

ReplyDeleteFor Dawkins and Randi and the rest of the so-called "critical thinkers"...
The *MODEL* of mental health:

"Look at the ANGLE OF THE KEY....see that, see that...."
what a fucking idiot this Randi is.....a REAL CRITICAL THINKER.....
Visit:
http://www.centerforinquiry.net/forums/viewthread/3283/P0/
to see how we stopped James Randi's fraudulent MILLION DOLLAR PARANORMAL challenge.....
watch carefully the consequences of Randi's *idea*…..
For over 40 years James Randi Zwigert (is this even a REAL NAME?) has had total control over who and how the testing was conducted, yet despite all this he has terminated the challenge.
The ONLY REASON why the challenge was stopped is because he lost and refused to pay.
PS: Love the IRONY of the BULLSHI*T sign over Randi's ugly little head
I'm not sure why this lunatic decided to pop up here with his oh-so-special brand of batshit crazy, but it you were actually to check out the link he provided to the CFI boards, you'll discover he really is mentally ill in the legal sense of the term.
ReplyDeleteThis guy is a Nostradamus believer, which makes him the first of this particular brand of psychotic loony to turn up here. He posted a bunch of raving drivel about such events as 9/11, failed Mars missions, and the birth of a six-legged goat. All of these are things he thinks prove Nostradamus prophecies, which in turn are whathe thinks defeated Randi's challenge. He's the kind of guy who, lacking education, thinks the way you make your arguments true is to use your caps lock.
I'm serious, he's exactly that insane.
Of course, he isn't the first deluded fool who tried to claim Randi's challenge was "fraudulent." All the fucked up woos tried to claim that, despite the fact Randi always allowed full disclosure (he even had the info on his wesbite) about the $1.1 million in neogtiable bonds, as well as the protocols for qualifying for the award. Randi gave test subjects a lot of latitude -- in many tests he didn't even show up if the woo in question didn't want him there -- and still no one ever came close to passing the test. The simple reason is that whatever paranormal powers they were claiming were just figures of their demented imaginations, and when the proof of this became irrefutable, the only defense they could offer their punctured egos was to claim the challenge was a fraud.
The reason Randi finally suspended the challenge was to devote the JREF's energies to more direct educational and debunking efforts. That, and the fact that in decades, no woo loony had ever come close to meeting it and never would.
I get the impression this Mabus cretin, who clearly has the social skills and maturity of a 6-year-old in addition to whatever psychosis he's suffering, thinks he may have found a new online forum to troll with his idiocy. Allow me to correct that particular delusion right here and now. Get fucked, Mabus, and the six-legged goat you rode in on.
Alright, who is the fellow Farker? :)
