Facebook friends...not always friendly.

I'm currently unable to add any new friends and that turned out to be a pretty good thing. Beth and I both received friend requests from a "Michelle Kay". We noticed that she didn't have any mutual friends, but Beth went ahead and accepted the friend request after noting that she listed herself as a fan of The Atheist Experience.

This evening, Beth got a message from this person which confirmed our suspicions:

  1. Wow. Classy. It IS sad the amount of hate that is caused by religion.

  2. clearly not the person in the profile pic

  3. That just makes me sad. People disappoint me so much.

  4. I just have to wonder why it is these wonderful Christians have nothing better to do than join FB pages under false pretenses and send hateful messages to strangers. They must not have cable.

  5. @canaling15: What makes you think that?

    ReplyDelete
  6. You can really feel the love and compassion.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I feel a "no true scotsman" coming on from theists everywhere....

    ReplyDelete
  8. Meh. Once again religious hate rears its head. But what's new? She (he? assuming the profile is fake) hadn't tried to friend me yet, but I went ahead and blocked her anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I see Jesus through her... He must be a *real* dick!

    ReplyDelete
  10. This is what happens when you are raised in fear and taught to hate.

Do they really believe their hate mail is going to endear themselves to us? Yep, I can see christ's light shining through her!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Why is it so hard for people to just be decent people?

    ReplyDelete
  12. I like that "she" begins the tirade with "sup".

    ReplyDelete
  13. maybe someone hijacked her account? low likelihood but possible... not worth the effort of checking out though I suppose ...

    ReplyDelete
  14. *Don't feed the trolls*
this person probably sends messages to pastors telling them how dumb they are for believing in fairy tales.
What'd be worth getting a hold of is a religios figure (pastor, priest, apologist) telling you to enjoy sucking dick in hell. hahahaah

    ReplyDelete
  15. That means that sex is still avaible in hell. Wow, gigantic barbeque and orgie in one. I like it better any minute

    ReplyDelete
  16. So,this small-minded hate-mongering religious bigot Imagines hell to be eternal oral sex? lol!!

  17. Internet Tough Guy strikes again.

    ReplyDelete
  18. A quick Facebook search turns up a few more of her intrests:

WHITE MEN ARE HOT, Against Everybody draw muhammed day May 20th (back up), Let's Nuke Mecca ?, bright blue eyes, ATHEISM VS. ISLAM, God Bless America!, Albanians are not white

  19. I appreciate that people are jumping to the conclusion that the picture must be fake. Surely, young girls can't be shit-heads. Does this not strike anyone as fairly superficial and sexist?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Well, it does look like a fake. Whoever did this, in any case, is really messed up.

    ReplyDelete
  21. @ChristOnlce People are jumping to the conclusion that the picture is a fake because it looks very much like a picture from porn. Also a girl does not look like that and have only 56 friends. This is quite a regular thing to do on fb and its usually to get email addresses.

    ReplyDelete
  22. could be wrong though who knows...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Using "sup" would have been grounds enough for me to ban the person.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm sorry but I laughed outrageously loud and long after reading that.

Don't burn your lips on his highness' member!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I am glad for that little "Report" button.

    ReplyDelete
  26. She dropped me a message this morning.

Just for clarity - don't harass this person, just ignore them.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oh my (nonexistent) Gawd.

    Kriss

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't like the assumptions people made about this person ie. "She's young and good looking therefor, she can't be racist".

But I did search for the picture in TinEye and the picture turned up here http://cavemancircus.com/2010/10/18/the-daily-dump-79/

So it may be likely this is a fake account.

@Canaling15 I disagree it looks like a "picture from porn". If that's what porn pictures look like then every girl from my high school was in porn. No, I think it looks like your standard "myspace" shot people are so fond of.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I wish I got facebook messages like that, just because they're funny as hell.

    ReplyDelete
  30. WOW! That goes so far beyond “look what religion does…” This person is obviously quite twisted, deranged, and likely needs therapy… immediately.

    ReplyDelete
  31. LOL@Giliell. I laughed my ass off at your comment..stoopid christians! Good humor is a sign of intelligence.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Is this the same person?

    http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002051406901&sk=info

I almost think poe, although entirely done in bad taste.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Surely all of us atheists can't be sucking Satan's cock for eternity all at the same time. Therefore we will at worst be required to take turns....

    ReplyDelete
  34. The good news is that if she is right, you'll be enjoying yourself for eternity! Great news!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Guys, this could just be a Poe.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Allow me to introduce a new word into our lexicon—POETARD.

Poe's Law: It is impossible to create a parody of religious fundamentalism so extreme that no one will mistake it for the real thing.

    Poe - tard (n.) A person who...
    1) confuses the meaning of "Poe" with "troll."
    2) is ignorant of the meaning of Poe's Law, and instead thinks it means the following: "Everybody is totally nice, everywhere. Stupid, mean-spirited people do not exist. They are a myth, like the Loch Ness Monster or the Tooth Fairy, or even God. Therefore, in any instance in which you see a person being stupid, mean and nasty on the internet, it is not real. It is someone simply faking it. This is true in 100% of instances, because in reality, nobody is mean, nobody feels hate (let alone would have the bad manners to express it even if it were possible for them to feel it), and no one actually believes anything dumb of any kind. Therefore, the proper reaction to all instances of bad behavior on the internet is to proclaim, It's just a Poe! The badness will then magically go away. Remember, it is impossible for badness to exist in any form in objective reality, ever."

    Don't be a Poetard.

The has been a public service message from the Atheist Experience Blog. We now return you to your regularly scheduled comments.

  37. My question is: what does being an n-word have to do anything with being an atheist?

    ReplyDelete
  38. @ronwisegamgee

None whatsoever. It's simply a method of putting as many slurs (or perceived slurs) into 160 characters as possible.

It could just as easily been said-

"Fuck you mothafuckin tard you fag shithead go burn in hell and suck your own dick atheist dickwad your such a douchebag and u'll be a sad satan-worshipper ur hole life, fagball."

Equal levels of intelligence, tact, and restraint are expressed in both (though the other uses more imagination).

  39. "Everybody is totally nice, everywhere. Stupid, mean-spirited people do not exist."

    Martin proves this wrong. ;)

  40. If we are going to strive to be an example of how to behave and how to treat people in the modern world, we might considering abandoning the nasty practice of using the invented and derogatory suffix "-tard". There are people in this world who ACTUALLY ARE RETARDED, and they might not appreciate their conditions being used as slander.

    ReplyDelete
  41. You will take Fucktard from me when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.

    ReplyDelete
  42. flag for fake account, forget.

    ReplyDelete
  43. It's amazing when someone attempts to insult you how much they reveal about themselves, in this case it's hilarious how ignorant this individual is.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Jeez, kids these days don't know anything. Sucking Satan's dick isn't what happens in hell, you suck Satan's dick in order to achieve 15 minutes of fame. Doesn't anyone listen to Bill Hicks?

    ReplyDelete
  45. It is unfair for you to think that all religious people would be nasty like that. Please stop misrepresenting religion. I have nothing against Atheism. I think the concept of doing good for the sake of doing good and without expecting a reward by God is a beautiful thing. There are many good things about Atheism/Humanism. But I don't like the way Atheists look down on Religious or Spiritual people. We are not evil haters. I only have two believes/ hope, I hope and believe that somehow there is a loving God and I hope and believe that there is Life After Death and all of us will be united with our loved ones again.
What's wrong with having those believes? Why does it make me dangerous or not suitable for the 21st century.
    Please stop misrepresenting religion.
    Thank you.

  46. @RoBe: And it only took 3 days and a little over an hour. Who had "less than 4 days" in the No True Scotsman pool?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Should've asked her if Jesus would want her to send you a message of hate...
