I think the details have been finalized for this, so I'm going to go ahead and post it here.
As we mentioned on the last Non-Prophets, Matt and I have been booked to speak at Bradley University in Peoria, IL on Friday, April 9 and Saturday, April 10. We will be in room 126 the Caterpillar Global Communications Center (GCC) at 5:00 PM, and Saturday at 2:00 PM.
We expect a mostly theist crowd. On Friday we'll be doing a sort of Atheism 101 discussion. Saturday we'll go over common apologetic fallacies. On both days we will leave ample time for questions. I'm guessing it should be pretty similar to watching a taping of TAE, except that the "callers" will be live in the lecture hall.
The sponsor is the Bradley Skeptic Society, so
Is that website actually active? I ask because I participated in Bradley's group at some point (not a student, just a local who was interested), and I wasn't aware of any activity within the group. Who was the contact for this?
ReplyDeleteIs this going to be recorded?
ReplyDeleteDo you know if the discussion will be recorded and available online, either by you guys or by the Bradley Skeptic Society?
ReplyDeleteI'd love to hear you guys speak, but I doubt I'll be able to haul myself all the way over to BU.
If not, then I'll see you in Hell.
I'll be there, with however many of the Bloomington-Normal Freethinkers I can cajole into carpooling.
ReplyDeleteSame question, Will it be recorded for those of us not in the area? Sounds awesome I'd hate to miss it.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteThis is Matthew, president of the BU Skeptics, sponsor of the Matt and Russsell’s speaking event at Bradley University. I am here to provide some more information and clarification.
This event will take place in the Caterpillar Global Communications Center (GCC) Room 126. This lecture hall only has about 200 seats and seating is on a first-come first-serves basis. So if you would like to get a seat, I suggest you come early.
This event will be recoded, so if you can’t make it, don’t worry about it.
Here are the planed events for “Skeptic Weekend”:
*4/9*
Noon – 3pm “God Hates Figs” – We will be standing in the middle of campus and shouting biblically relevant phrases. We will also be passing out Fig Newtons and flyers containing bible quotes and info on other upcoming events.

5pm-7pm “An intro to Atheism” – By the Atheist Experience.
*4/10*
2pm-4pm “Common apologetic fallacies” – By the Atheist Experience.
[Tentative] 5pm-7pm “Flying Spaghetti Monster Dinner” - $400 worth of Chinese food.
8pm-9pm “Justin Kredible: Like a Magician, But Cooler” – This event will be fun because from passed experience, some Christians will be protesting this event (standing right next to the entrance, praying and chanting) because they believe magicians actually have supernatural power from the Devil.
4/11
[Tentative] “Bad Astronomy” - Someone from the Lakeview Museum in Peoria will have a presentation on UFO’s and Moon Hoax theories.

Don’t join our website or facebook account because I have not updated those in over a year.
Thanks, Matthew. I've updated the post with relevant information.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a hoot... where is Bradley U anyway?
ReplyDeletePeoria. For some reason that marginally pertinent piece of information has managed to be omitted from all discussion of this event so far.
ReplyDeleteFixed that in the post, and also added a link to Google Maps.
ReplyDeletePeoria is a city, located in the State of Illinois. That is also an important bit of information.
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to these events. I'll be heading up from Springfield at least for Saturday's events. Hopefully also Friday's.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I'll probably be coming alone as my wife has to work that weekend and the only other atheist I know in town is not interested. :(
Matthew, I've had some contact with you about this and was wondering if you had a paypal account or some such way set up for donations? I'd be happy to help out a little for all of the effort and work that you and the BU Skeptics have put into this.
Because you asked, I setup a PayPal donation page, for the BU Skeptics. As always, any donation, no matter how small, is appreciated.

So I made a new club website with relevant information about this upcoming event.

I'm tempted to come.
ReplyDeleteI'll be coming on Saturday. Sounds like it's going to be a blast!
