Hmm...don't think so...

Apropos of nothing, I thought I'd make the observation that, for reasons I can't make out, the "current weather" widget on my computer is telling me that it's 21° outside, with wintry snowflake icons to drive the point home. And I just walked outside in my shirtsleeves to bright sunlight and gorgeous blue skies. I hope this isn't some kind of metaphor for the poor quality of science we're getting right now in Texas under the current leadership.

  1. I just spent a couple of hours walking on the UT campus to take care of some graduation paperwork. I came wearing a sweater, but I had to take it off very soon because I was, um, sweating.

  2. Martin,

Are you using the OS X weather dashboard widget? If so, you should make sure your location is "Austin, TX" and not just generically "Austin". Apparently some other town named Austin takes precedence, and it's cold there...

  3. Reminds me of a few days ago where my weather gadget told me there was "Unknown Precipitation". I went outside expecting it to rain frogs.

    I was disappointed :(

  4. Josef,

Well, shiver me timbers! That worked. So I wonder where this other icy Austin is? I see there's one in Minnesota, where I understand they're expecting a high today of 12°. Now I wonder why they'd take precedence over us? The idea!

  5. I had the same thing happen on my Macbook today. Apparently there is an Atlanta in the northern latitudes as well.

On a side note, it looks like our gov's prayers are about as effective as his policies. Forecast - dry until further notice...
