Courtesy of alert Non-Prophets listener Shilling, the first major review I've seen of Left Behind: Eternal Forces. I just loved it right from the first paragraph:

Here's another one, from an even more unapologetically atheistic perspective.
ReplyDeletelol. It probably sucks. Ill take your word for it then.
ReplyDeleteThis game still bothers me. How can a "love your brother" Christian honestly justify creating something so blatantly bigoted and hateful?
ReplyDeleteAs a child of a fundamentalist environment, I honestly don't see this game appealing to anyone. Maybe some misguided parents will buy it for their kids for Christmas instead of GTA.
Oh yeah, that second review kicks ass. The last sentence will stick with me for awhile: “Speaking of which, I’m sure there are a few of you out there praying for me right now. You don’t think I’m prepared for the second coming of Christ, but I am. You see, I’ve got a nail gun.”…LMAO!
It sounds as if it could be fun -- discounting the crashes and user interface problems -- if you just pretend you're playing the Borg.
ReplyDeleteYou're with a live atheist call-in show in Texas? That must take guts. Texas strikes me as the most fanatically Christian state in the US.

ReplyDeleteIt can be...entertaining. There's a podcast version of the TV show's audio you can get from iTunes and other podcasting services. You oughta grab it, as well as the sister show, The Non-Prophets!
i'd say texas is in the lower third, but not the MOST insanely theocratic state. I mean, they have Austin. I'd go with someplace like Alabama or maybe Virginia...Utah is definitely insane in a lot of ways, despite SLC's strong godless community. Talk about the Borg.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I'm glad I live in CA, even if it is the mostly GOP southern portion.
Really, Austin is the ideal place to have an active atheist group. It is actually a very liberal pocket in the middle of Texas, so there are plenty of potential members, and it is "safe" enough to attend. However, it is still Texas, which means that there is a constant amount of theocratic activity to get outraged about.
ReplyDeleteIn an area like California -- where I have lived -- there isn't an assumption that politicians have to cloak themselves in religion, hence there is less interest in having atheist groups to push back.
This statement is posted from an employee of Left Behind Games on behalf of Troy Lyndon, our Chief Executive Officer.
ReplyDeleteThere has been in incredible amount of MISINFORMATION published in the media and in online blogs here and elsewhere.
Pacifist Christians and other groups are taking the game material out of context to support their own causes. There is NO “killing in the name of God” and NO “convert or die”. There are NO “negative portrayals of Muslims” and there are NO “points for killing”.
Please play the game demo for yourself (to at least level 5 of 40) to get an accurate perspective, or listen to what CREDIBLE unbiased experts are saying after reviewing the game at www.leftbehindgames.com/pages/controversy.htm
Then, we’d love to hear your feedback as an informed player.
The reality is that we’re receiving reports everyday of how this game is positively affecting lives by all who play it.
