Ridiculous and utterly dishonest. What D'Souza refuses to see, it is that pretty much all religions put faith over moral, thinks that belief encompass moral and makes moral subservient to the belief. After all, this is something which virtually every theistic apologist brings up at some point in debates etc.

Just once, I would love Hitch, or Harris, or whoever is on the other side of the debate to say something along the lines of:

"I'm perfectly willing to consider the argument that atheism causes mass murder. Could you put forwards your evidence for a direct link between lack of belief in a theistic god and all this violence?"

I would just love to see a theistic apologist attempt to show that disbelief in god alone leads to genocide. Each time they go through the list of people (both atheistic and theistic) who have commited these crimes in the name of atheism, and they give a reason of any sort, Hitch (it would have to be Hitch, he doesn't care about interrupting!) could say: "But that's not atheism, that's an actual belief. Atheism is the lack of a belief".

Maybe eventually it would be drilled into the skulls of some of these people.Afterthought_btwhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17758975616219512727noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33241741.post-80020960963033673372009-11-18T04:20:07.621-06:002009-11-18T04:20:07.621-06:00'the Christian bin Laden, the Christian equiva...'the Christian bin Laden, the Christian equivalent of al-Qaeda or Hezbollah, or the Christian "nation of martyrs" patterned along the lines of post-Khomeini Iran'

If you were to ask a Muslim in Iraq (or Iran or Afghanistan) to answer to that, they might say: George W Bush, the US Army and the United States respectively.

As Obi Wan said: "many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view".Pinkydeadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14677002754220215441noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33241741.post-45280750258159994652009-11-17T23:36:22.306-06:002009-11-17T23:36:22.306-06:00He's also just wrong. Remember Ann Coulter saying that the US should invade Islamic countries, kill the leaders and convert them to Christianity?

Or has D'Souza paid any attention to Irish politics in the last 100 years?

Moreover, D'Souza misses an additional point. Christianity has become less violent over the last two hundred years, in a large part due to the fact that it has become more secularized, more rational, and has less temporal power. But from the Crusades to about 1700 or so is non-stop religious warfare conducted by Christians.

Trying to see what belief system has the most casualties connected to it is really dumb. It is particularly dumb because if we try to do this Christianity isn't going to look nearly as good as D'Souza wants it to as long as you take a view that isn't extremely limited.Joshuahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00637936588223855248noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33241741.post-76837389592072210532009-11-17T21:54:16.470-06:002009-11-17T21:54:16.470-06:00Yeah Dinesh is a special special case.

Because only a stupid person (atheist) would consider a lack of evidence as a negative and a reason not to believe.

And twice (once after being corrected) asserted that Atheists state they KNOW there is no god/Supernatural.
